Xenol's Antarctic Wimpy - Biggles Breaks the Silence

Post by Xenol1997 » Wed Jan 09, 2019 3:20 pm

I highly doubt I'll finish this project before the February deadline, however I thought I'd have a go nonetheless. I have elected to build one of the Vickers Wellingtons used by Biggles under the guise of government research aircraft in 'Biggles Breaks the Silence'. I thought that this would be a good opportunity for a unique livery allowing a bit of creative license on my part!

On my lunchbreak today I wandered over to the local model shop and picked up one of the new (and much lauded) 1:72 Airfix Wellington Mk.1a/cs to begin my build. Below is a rough mockup of the scheme I'd like to do. It is entirely fake of course, but I feel quite plausible.

Me too.

Absolutely brilliant! So glad you've joined the group build! I love this project. The scheme you've mocked up is great (quite reminiscent of postwar RCAF aircraft) and I'm keen to see how the new tool Wimpey builds up.

Thanks for the kind words chaps - The kit has been washed, but I'm waiting on the arrival of my new airbrush-pump before I start in earnest. The kit seems very nicely moulded, however I'd say there's almost TOO MUCH internal detailing, the majority of which will never be seen. I'm probably going to do the bare minimum in everything except the cockpit simply to get this build moving forward!

Wow, what a delay! Work had been a bit oppressive of late, combined with other factors means I've not been able to spend much time on this as I had hoped. Made a proper start today though. If you're a purist you might want to look away, in the interests of convenience I am taking some liberties regarding the interior colours.

Primed most of the interior parts and painted the majority of the side walls. Gosh my eyes were hurting after hand-painting all those trusses!

Hopefully I'll get some more done tomorrow!

Excellent excellent. Keep the build pics coming :-)

I am definitely not a purist on colours and the beauty of Biggles builds is that nobody needs to be
