Thanks for the welcome back! I'm still getting used to the [slightly] new bells & whistles, but will get there eventually. I may be a bit sparse in my postings in the short term, as I am currently undergoing some new medical treatment, which is playing havoc with my 'spare time' [as I fall asleep at the drop of a hat, lol]...but when the mood strikes I am looking forward to catching up with all the wonderful threads & re-visiting many of the stories, some of which I have not seen as yet.

P.S. Do we have to work hard to get our promotions again? Flying school, taxiing & swotting up the books all night here I come, lol. :thumbchap:
Sorry, we are all having to swot hard for our promotions. Hope the new medical treatment is helpful despite its soporific effects.

There are quite a few old threads that I'd like to re-visit now I've been reminded of their existence. I'm just waiting for the bulk of the copying to cease then any new posts won't be lost in the copying of the old.

Thank you [belatedly] for my birthday wishes everyone! Unfortunately I was locked out of the new forum for a bit, probably due to some password 'thingy' going into spam & me getting confused, lol. How is everyone? Feels like I'm starting all over again...deja vu, deja vu, echo, echo...
Welcome back, OzB...all the best with the medical side of things.

Here's a lovely short piece on CNN about "They Shall Not Grow Old" and the colorization of WW1 footage:

Sometimes we might wonder how Biggles and Co passed those long, lonely hours in the air flying from one end of the planet to the other. Mr RSG found this article on the ABC News site this morning about a bloke who's knocked around the aviation industry since WWII. On a boring long distance flight (UK to OZ) in the 1950's here's how they passed the time:
Bill also recalled how it took his crew 54 hours to fly to England in a Handley Page Hastings troop-carrier and another 54 to fly back, flying up to nine hours a day before resting overnight.

"Coming home, we bought some train sets and, because we had an empty plane, we put them around the plane and played with them, just to pass the time away."

Has this given anyone else visions of our Four overseeing the setting up of train sets and competing with one another to pass the time on those l-o-o-o-n-g flights?

Ginger: "But I wanted Thomas the Tank Engine!"

Be a bit difficult in the back of a Proctor though, I'd have thought.

Mr. KK was reading Fly Past magazine this morning while waiting for his coffee, and found an article about an R/C club that was re-creating the Battle of Britain with remote-controlled Spitfires, Hurricanes, and a motely assortment of German aircraft. It looked fun, and Biggles even got a passing mention! I shall bring it to the office tomorrow and get a scan of some of the photos.

Alaska just had a pretty substantial earthquake. The photos are shocking: https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/alaska ... index.html

If we have any forum members or visitors in that part of the world, I hope you are all OK.

(Edited to add, update: they are now counting the aftershocks at 15!)

Here's a photo of a road:
