Biggles Puzzle

Post by kylie_koyote » Thu Dec 27, 2018 2:12 pm

So my husband, who is really quite creative when he's in the mood, found a website that will make custom jigsaw puzzles. He had this one made for me for Christmas.
Biggles Puzzle.JPG
I shall post updates as I go.

He also had the idea - if any forum friends are so inclined - that once I'm done with it, I could sign it, and mail it off to someone else on the forum, who could put it together, sign it... and mail it off again. If you are interested in doing that, please let me know! It would be fun to see if we how far we can make it travel around the globe.

That's great! How many pieces before I commit to anything? My Christmas jigsaw is sitting half done on my table. Son's VR thingies are on top and everytime I sort a few pieces, my mother picks them up to 'tidy.'

1,000 pieces.

I am planning on starting it this weekend and will report back on its difficulty level.

I did a 1,000 piece puzzle over Thanksgiving weekend and it took me 3 days. (But I neglected the laundry.)

1,000 piece is okay. I showed this to Mr FB and he thought it a brilliant idea.

So, yesterday, whilst still in my jammies, I decided to take advantage of the holiday and get a start on the puzzle. It was tremendous fun.

This is what it looks like:
1_the box.jpg
First I had to assess the situation.
2_taking the lid off.jpg
And dump out the pieces:

Thankfully, the images were like old friends, and I quickly found some matches:

I astounded Mr. KK with my ability to recognize which pieces went with which book. He said "it's like you've been training for this your whole life!" :claphappy: :claphappy:

He had put in a couple different images of the same book, different editions, which added to the challenge.

I'll take it, KK. It makes sense to do it by country, I suppose. Where are you signing it?

More progress to report!
7_nearly there!.jpg
Finishing the three books in the corner felt like a real achievement!
8_finished the bottom corner.jpg
This edition of Flies West was new to me. It took me awhile (and all the puzzle pieces falling into place) to realize that the white blob is the bird who flies through the windshield.

Whew! I finished it! A marathon puzzling masterpiece.
9_all done!.jpg
It was super fun.

I'll send it to Fairblue next. She can decide who gets it after that.

This is really great and such a perfect Christmas present!! :claphappy:

But I can't do a puzzle that's more than a 100 pieces so I'm not joining in :(

I wish you all luck, the idea of sending it between you is really great :D

What a great present! I recently received a dent to my puzzling confidence thanks to a tricky number that had what looked like edge pieces on the inside of the puzzle. Quite a fun wee challenge that.

I will have both American and British postal addresses from April so would be keen to jump on board later in the year, saving an antipodean postal cost.

The puzzle has been mailed off to Fairblue. If history is any guide, it will take about 2 weeks to get to her.
