That is my absolute, very worst nightmare. When we return home to Brissie from the USA I will be checking carefully, I can assure you.
Not Australia, but pythons in toilet bowls / swimming pools appear in the news from time to time here as well! This one was an old but memorable incident (there are more recent ones, but this was the one where someone actually got bitten) http://www.asiaone.com/singapore/big-py ... sewife-loo

Ahh! This started making sense halfway through. Bluebottles are flies over here.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

I read a report of the "bluebottles" and it said they were jellyfish.

And they give a painful sting. Had one wrapped around my hand whilst in the surf at Coolangatta many, many years ago. Fortunately the Lifesavers were prepared and doused me with vinegar.

Here's a bit of a different snake tale. Having had to personally deal with ticks whilst in the bush, I actually feel sorry for the python!!

Ew!

We have a problem with deer ticks and Lyme Disease here. No surprise really, since these chaps are regular backyard visitors:

The little girl next door had a bout with Lyme Disease a couple years ago and still tires easily, poor thing. We check Little A religiously.

My daughter lives in the Forest of Dean which has Deer, free-roaming sheep, boar, polecats fox etc. She found a tick on her arm and went to the doctors as is normal practice there. She had contracted Lymes Disease but it was caught very early and fortunately she is lucky enough to have no side effects. Like you, KK, her kids are checked regularly, as well as the menagerie they have.

We're another area which has to check for ticks, especially people walking on the fells.

That's interesting. I had no idea you had problems with ticks at all!! Shows my ignorance, doesn't it? My son had one on the back of his neck that went undetected for over a week (he was 20 and past the age of my checking behind his ears). It was very nasty and had to be lanced by the doctor and son was on antibiotics for a while till all was clear. That, along with Mr RSG's and my own personal encounters with the odd tick in the bush have been enough to last us a lifetime.

We live in big tick country too - sheep and deer. Despite this, it's really hard to get the average doctor to test for Lymes.
