This is excellent work!

I am giggling, however, with a thought of scene from The Princess Bride.

Vizzini: No more rhymes now, I mean it!
Fezzik: Anybody want a peanut?
Thank you, my response perhaps should be...”as you wish” ....but the rhyming will continue regardless:-p For now.

Please can we have a pirate curse? Please? Lovely update as always.

Thank you very much:-)...a pirate curse might be useful if it gets too quiet for the team:-p

20/ Hidden talents revealed

All hands on deck to load the schooner’s fuel and food and weapons store.
Sandy’s trusted crew are there; he really needs a couple more.
Algy happily steps forward, he’s been sailing yachts for years;
And, much to everyone’s amazement, Herr Von Zoyton volunteers.
He nods and neatly steps on board, is thrown a line at his request;
Secures it deftly, checks the sails, while Sandy watches, most impressed.
Herr von Zoyton; seasoned sailor. Hidden talents. Who’d have guessed?

Thank you once again, it really helps to get such comments along the way:-)

21/ Ginger is lost in thought

The sky is tinged with pink and gold, at dawn, as Sandy’s craft sets sail.
Ginger watches, still subdued, and hopes fair winds and sun prevail.
So far, he's roused a decapod; been missing on a lonely reef;
He’s yet to justify his presence; hates to disappoint the chief.
He hopes he'll get the chance to show he has a useful part to play
And isn't seen as just a nuisance; either lost or in the way.
He shakes himself; he mustn’t brood.
In Biggles’ view, it doesn’t pay.

I've looked for the decapod smilie to reward your efforts, but it is MIA. A very typical Biggles response, thank you very much.

Armed to the teeth, I went to look for your missing Decapod, Kismet. It was having a great time whilst it was AWOL but I've dragged it back to duty again. :octo:

I have never had a poem rated in decapods before, Kismet and FB, thank you:-)

And thank you, KK:-)

This next bit is a bit of a filler, and something Biggles should have thought of at the beginning:-p (I suppose I can blame Biggles?)

22/ Taking off

Biggles calls him from the shore; his prompt assistance is required;
Two radio transmissions wanted; Ginger has the skills desired.
Ginger listens carefully; he’s keen to use his expertise.
A brief report to Colonel Raymond, coded, covert, sent with ease;
And one thing Biggles deems, with hindsight, crucial to the whole campaign;
Navigating scattered islands, sea lagoons, unique terrain.
An order placed, for quick response; to purchase an amphibious plane.
~0~
Biggles leaves at noon with Ginger, synchronised with time and tide;
He thinks it might be wise to keep the young co-pilot at his side.
The silver plane soars high against blue heavens, caught in graceful flight
And Ginger glimpses hangars, beach and airfield as they fade from sight.
Bertie, Smyth and Henry Harcourt stay behind to “mind the fort”,
And deal with all essential trips to fetch the craft which Biggles sought.
Once this is done, they’ll follow on; a solid and robust support.

Thank you, and yes, you would think Biggles would know which aeroplanes to take...he's been on treasure hunts before

And hi, Spitfire666 :-)

23/ Sailing

A trim and neat two-masted schooner skims the waves; an agile craft.
The sun beats down and trade winds fill the billowing sails, both fore and aft.
Algy checks his chart to get a bearing on the route ahead;
He’s clearly in his element; no cockpit, well-scrubbed decks instead.
The wheel spins smoothly through his fingers; hands are steady, course is true.
He smiles at Full Moon and Shell Breaker; cheerful and devoted crew,
Who left their home and kin behind, the moment Sandy's call came through.
~0~
He's mindful of the risks they're taking; hates to place them in harm's way,
But then recalls the decapod and knows precisely what they'll say
If asked to keep away from danger, change their whole philosophy.
Life and death are simply there to face head on, unflinchingly.
A familiar hum, he shades his eyes; a wing is dipped as Biggles' plane
Arcs overhead then fades away and only azure skies remain.
It may be several days before the whole team can meet up again.
~0~
Von Zoyton also lifts his head, tilts wide-brimmed hat to view the skies;
A change from normal neat attire, a necessary compromise.
He's swiftly got the measure of this craft; her quirks, her tuned response;
His thoughts now stray to times long past, for even he was carefree...once.
No shame involved in taking sides; a stand against his former friends.
He’s made poor choices since the war; this chance, perhaps, to make amends.
His duty and his conscience clear; the point at which his old life ends.

Thank you very much. Really pleased you liked it :-)

24/ Arrival and a disturbance

Biggles flies above the sails of Sandy's schooner, far below;
He knows that Algy’s quite content, but he would find the pace too slow.
He dips a wing to hail his friends; then carries on, quite satisfied.
A sideways glance at Ginger; he’s aware the lad's preoccupied;
Still shaken up by yesterday’s quite shocking, unforeseen near miss.
Biggles tends to hide concern in situations such as this;
The habits of a lifetime are by no means easy to dismiss.
~0~
A sunlit panorama stretches out before them; miles and miles
Of reefs and lonely rocks and sandbanks, interlaced with larger isles.
Eyes are peeled for signs of life; disturbances of sea or sky.
Vigilance is always needed; tension levels running high.
Base is reached without distraction, plane now gently rests on sand;
Essential items soon unloaded; cargo stored in huts as planned;
Ginger sets up stove and camp beds, keen to give his boss a hand.
~0~
The plane is safely tucked away, beneath the palm trees’ green leaved shade;
The ebb and flow have washed away incriminating tracks they made.
They fetch small kit and sleeping bags, and settle down to pass the night;
There’s nothing more that they can do but wait until the morning light.
A distant sound, an aeroplane; it catches both men unawares;
Biggles sits bolt upright, then he scrambles to his feet, and stares...
Twin-engined; flying in the dark, conclusively
Not one of theirs...

A little bit more...

25/ Back on board

The schooner drops her anchor once the day time toil is at an end.
A sheltered cove, a gentle breeze, a warm and sultry night to spend
Beneath the stars; the sails now furled. They've made good time and might maintain
Advantage when the morning comes and sailing is resumed again.
A cheerful meal of fresh-caught fish, then berths rocked gently by the sea.
It's Algy's watch...a noise disturbs; a plane, quite unmistakably.
He strains his ears and eyes as every light is snuffed out hastily...

Probably not...

26/ Biggles is impatient

A sleepless night is taken up with thoughts about their foe's intent.
A flight back from the villain's den? Is gold retrieval imminent?
Biggles paces endlessly, impatient to investigate,
But knows, until his team arrives, the only thing to do is wait.
A flight to check activity could not, right now, be justified;
He'll have to exercise restraint until the rest are at his side.
He's well aware, from missions past, that things are rarely cut and dried.
