Thank you...really pleased you are enjoying this:-)

Travelling most of tomorrow, so...

13/ An eventful day

The breakfast things are cleared away and all are set to carry on.
Biggles will investigate the island Bertie chanced upon.
Tidal graphs are calculated, optimising time for flight;
Algy, Smyth and Bertie join him. Once their plane is out of sight,
Henry works with Herr Von Zoyton; checking every chart anew.
Sandy quietly spreads the word to reach his former sailing crew.
And...Ginger takes a walk, exploring; as he’s nothing else to do...
~0~
The reef...a silver plane approaches, gliding in at ebbing tide.
The party gathers under palm fronds; Bertie acts as island guide.
Smyth examines rough hewn beams, the structure of the sturdy huts;
And Algy notes the local bounty; breadfruit, yams and coconuts.
Von Zoyton files the last few papers, Henry makes late lunch; they eat.
A call, and Sandy leaves to fetch a couple he’s arranged to meet.
And...Ginger goes alone, observing sea life in the shimmering heat...
~0~
Biggles is delighted with their survey of the landing place;
An ideal site for spare provisions, extra fuel cans; just in case.
Their craft is swung around for take off, skims above the rising sea,
Back to join the others, waiting; plans must move on rapidly.
Henry and Von Zoyton greet them, ready to update their scheme.
Sandy’s left a message that he’ll soon be back to join the team.
But...Where is Ginger? Puzzled frowns, then great alarm...
A distant scream...

I can only apologise...:-p

14/ Ginger gets a fright

Heading home past Sandy's schooner, anchored in a sunlit bay;
Ginger hears the plane returning, picks up pace without delay.
Ginger trots along the shoreline, relishing each cooling wave;
A pause for breath; he's drawn towards a water-filled, sun-dappled cave.
Pebbles shift and small fish scatter, something here is very odd;
Ginger moves a cautious foot and gives the sand a gentle prod.
A tentacle is snaking out...a trapped and hungry decapod...

Yep, enter the decapod...perhaps a step too far...but...

15/ From the Depths

A scalded cat has nothing on the speed with which he leaves the lair;
A multitude of cuts and bruises; Ginger truly does not care.
Something wraps around his ankle, drags him back towards the pool;
Huge regrets for recent action, feels he’s twenty kinds of fool.
He cannot stop the powerful traction, can’t escape the deep lagoon;
Half submerged he struggles on, but knows his strength will fail him soon...
Lithe figures pass him swiftly by: Shell Breaker; at his side, Full Moon...

16/ Close Work

Utter pandemonium; a blur of movement, far too fast:
Ginger sprawls back onto rock, bewildered, but released at last.
He staggers up to join the fray; quite horrified as steel knives flash;
The cave is full of spray and motion; bodies writhe and swirl and splash.
Strong hands grip his shoulders firmly, pull him down, to fall on sand;
Sandy knows that, dazed and shaken, Ginger will not understand
That both his South Sea Isle companions have the matter well in hand.
~0~
Familiar voices; friends come running, careless of the rising tide;
Algy races on with Bertie; Biggles drops to Ginger’s side.
Ginger barely registers his anxious presence, tries in vain
To struggle out of Sandy’s hold, and reach the churning pool again.
Algy stays a headlong rush, takes in the fast-evolving scene.
Von Zoyton joins them, pistol drawn; uncertain how to intervene;
A dimly lit and moving target; two young divers in between...

This is sooooo wonderful!! And a decapod!!!! I'm so stunned by that, a hungry decapod!!
There's a difference between a bad man and a good man gone wrong, answered Biggles coldly, as he turned back into the hut.

Thank you very much...all of you...never written a decapod fight in verse before...wasn't sure how it would come across

17/ End of the Battle

Then...roiling waves reduce to ripples, all is silent, stilled, and calm.
Ginger scrambles through the entrance, clutches Algy’s steady arm.
No one speaks, he scans the surface, gripped by ever rising fear...
Which falls away as two triumphant, grinning faces reappear.
Strong emotions unrestrained, as saved and saviours reunite;
They shrug off Ginger's earnest thanks, embracing him in sheer delight;
And Ginger knows how close it was:
Puts head in hands;
Distressed,
Contrite.

Thank you very much:-) I really appreciate the feedback.

18/ Biggles has something to say

Biggles' words, addressed to Ginger, spark with anger, unreserved;
"It must be said that you, my lad, had better luck than you deserved!
We have no time for misadventure, thoughtless actions, needless scares;
We have a vital task ahead; no other enterprise compares!"
The party, now with two new members, makes its way along the shore
With Ginger trying hard to hide the fact that limbs are scraped and sore.
A sympathetic glance from Bertie demonstrates what friends are for.

I've looked for the decapod smilie to reward your efforts, but it is MIA. A very typical Biggles response, thank you very much.

Thank you...I thought Biggles wouldn’t let this go without comment:-p

19/ Onwards

Ginger’s wounds are cleaned and treated...Biggles wasn’t fooled at all.
Summons to the office follows, large scale map is pinned on wall.
The endless weeks of preparation; forms and survey flights are past
And everyone is ready for the main event to start at last.
“Retrieving stolen goods,” states Biggles, “is not the overriding aim.
We need to stop our enemies from funding their malicious game.
Destruction of ill-gotten gains could be an option, though a shame.”
~0~
Henry starts to speak in protest; Biggles stops him with a look.
“This is not a treasure hunt, an outing from a school boys’ book.”
“ No gold doubloons,” adds Algy, mildly. “ That could lead to far, far worse;
We seem to have enough to do, without an ancient pirate curse.”
Ginger’s snort is quickly stifled; order is, in time, restored.
The next steps are deliberated; teamwork as they work towards
Their goal; that danger-ridden isle, complete with crooks and priceless hoard.

This is excellent work!

I am giggling, however, with a thought of scene from The Princess Bride.

Vizzini: No more rhymes now, I mean it!
