'Any more news on what happened last night?' Biggles asked, covering up that he had been too tired to remember any of it.
'Major Bigglesworth,' said von Stalhein coldly, 'there are times when I seriously wonder if you were created by the devil just to annoy me.'

"Yes. I've had to have a tetanus shot in my sit-upon" Algy declared heatedly, not inclined to be generous towards Biggles yet. At least, not until he had had his breakfast.

Biggles laughed. Algy would be walking funnily for days.

Biggles conscience was slightly mollified when he saw that Algy's appetite hadn't been affected by his adventures of the might before.

Ginger and Bertie were inclined to be put out that they'd missed all the excitement of Algy having been shot.

Biggles ordered a large breakfast of his own. Sleeping so well had made him very hungry.

'Right chaps. How are we going to find Montague and / or his mate today? I'm bored with being away from home. I want to make the Aero Club Reunion dinner so we have to be ready to leave by tomorrow.'
'Major Bigglesworth,' said von Stalhein coldly, 'there are times when I seriously wonder if you were created by the devil just to annoy me.'

"Aren't we going to look into why that waiter shot Algy?" asked Ginger.

"He's probably only a hired thug," Biggles told him as his breakfast was put in front of him. "Find Montague and we'll probably find him. Besides, time isn't on our side.". He looked at Algy who was wriggling uncomfortably. "Would you like a cushion, old boy?"

Ginger and Bertie exchanged glances. Biggles seemed extremely offhand this morning. They wondered what had happened the previous evening - apart from Algy's obvious injury and painful sit-upon.

"You seem very casual about everything," Ginger said, trying to keep his voice on an even keel too.

'This affair is dragging out too long. We've recovered Boris's papers from Siberia; we've unearthed Montague's dubious loyalties and now we have been dumped on this godforsaken party island to try and spot Montague and any companions he might have whilst anyone who remembers anything about the old scandal appears to see what the fall out will be and take advantage of it. I'm a pilot, and I'd like to sleep in my own bed for a change. Even the filing is starting to look attractive.' Biggles stabbed a sausage viciously, and Ginger winced.

"Talk of the devil" Algy judged Biggles. "Over there by that huge palm tree."

'Don't let him know we've spotted him,' Biggles urged, surreptitiously recording Montague with his phone.

"Shall I follow him?" Ginger asked as Montague turned away and started to walk down the path.

'Yes,' agreed Biggles. 'Don't let him see you and try to record anyone he meets.'

Bertie came back a few moments later. Biggles raised an eyebrow.

"Where have you been? You're missing all the action," he said curtly. "Ginger's just gone off to follow Montague."

"Hold easy, old boy. I got this." Bertie held up a key. "Montague's booked into the hotel next door. This is his room key."

Just then von Stalhein walked in. He spotted them and headed across.

Bertie saw him coming and swiftly pocketed the key - which also alerted Biggles.

Von Stahlein chose the coffee, but declined the offer of a pastry. Biggles wondered what he was upnto. What did he know and what did he want?

"Are you gentlemen aware of the danger you are in?" von Stalhein didn't waste time.
