Algy shrugged.

'Let's go home to bed,' he suggested, 'And we'll see where we are up to in the morning.'

Biggles nodded. 'I think you're right, old chap.'

'Let me grab my night things and feed the tarantulas,' Sophie agreed. 'For my own safety, I'm going to have to be kidnapped by you as I can't explain how you both escaped.'
'Major Bigglesworth,' said von Stalhein coldly, 'there are times when I seriously wonder if you were created by the devil just to annoy me.'

"That's not a good idea," Biggles replied quickly. "We're known Police Officers and police officers don't kidnap people. We can arrest you instead." He saw the look of horror on Sophie's face. "Don't worry, we'll just make them think you've been arrested. You won't have to spend a night in the cells. We'll get you a room in a hotel with a WPC next door."

'I'd rather be with you,' Sophie said. 'I trust you to keep me safe better than some poor, untrained wpc.'

"No, I'm sorry, it's out of the question," Biggles said. "Watch may be kept on the flat and you can't be seen anywhere near it. That would blow the whole thing, And I can assure you that the WPC will not be untrained. "

Algy's concern and confusion over Biggles' behaviour was escalating. He'd begun to suspect Biggles had wanted some quality time with Sophie, perhaps in the hopes of learning more of whatever she was involved in. Now Biggles had backflipped. More than anything, he needed to get Biggles back to the flat, alone, and find out exactly what he was up to.

"Biggles is right," he said firmly. "You'll be perfectly safe with the WPC we have in mind. Let's go."

Sophie was not happy about it, but as the alternative was to stay at the house she dashed upstairs for a few things. She wasn't gone above five minutes but it was enough time for Algy to speak to Biggles.

Biggles frowned, but didn't answer.

Algy tried again. "Biggles, if you've got a plan or hidden agenda you need to share it with me," Algy stated, "otherwise I might put my foot in it again."

Biggles still didn't answer.

'Have you knocked your head again?' Algy demanded, suddenly concerned.

"What makes you think that?" asked Biggles with some asperity. But he frowned and raised his hand and began rubbing absently at the back of his head.

"We need to get you to a hospital," he said urgently, as Sophie came through the door.

When Biggles didn't protest (much), Algy became really alarmed and bundled him into the car.
"For goodness sake stop that Yankee drawl, or you'll have us all doing it before you've finished."
"OK baby - sorry - I mean, righto."
"That's better."

Which Algy didn't notice, as Sophie was hidden - laid along the back seat.

It wasn't until they got to the hospital and she got out that Algy discovered she was there, but he was too distracted to protest.

He thrust his phone to her. "Ring Bertie," he commanded and tell him that Biggles is ill and let him know where we are."

Sophie couldn't believe her luck. She now had possession of Algy's phone - and access to all his contacts. "What's your passcode?" she asked as innocently as she could.

Algy swiped his thumb quickly across it. Sophie noted that she mustn't let it switch off or she wouldn't be able to get back in again without Algy's presence. She scrolled through the names until she came to Bertie's as Algy whisked Biggles into the hospital.

She made the call as requested, and as she held the phone wondered why Algy's kidnappers hadn't relieved him of it.

She didn't let that stop her from having a quick look at what was on there.

The screen went blank. Sophie could have screamed in frustration. Probably a flat battery, she thought.

She didn't realise that Algy had downloaded a retina sensitive app that would shut the phone down should anyone other than himself use it for more than 30 seconds without his entering the security code.

Demurely, she joined the men in A and E, awaiting assessment for Biggles.

Algy asked for his phone back. "I think the battery's dead," she said, handing it over. "Have you heard what's wrong with Him?"

Algy shrugged. 'He's had his vital signs checked. Now we're waiting for a doctor. Shall I call you a taxi so you don't have to wait?'

Algy did not trust Sophie. But as he had no idea what game Biggles was playing he decided to play as safe as possible and try to get rid of her politely.
