Biggles turned to the brother Genie who had brought him there. He was staring at his father, who was about twelve feet from the ground, gyrating to the music, completely unaware of what was going on, while Genie Grandmother and Genie Mother glared at him.

"Can you freeze everyone but us?" Biggles shouted in his ear. "And stop the music?"

Granny genie did so. Father genie looked to see what had happened to the music. The first person he spotted was Jeannie. 'What are you doing here,' he said crossly. 'You're underage.'
'Major Bigglesworth,' said von Stalhein coldly, 'there are times when I seriously wonder if you were created by the devil just to annoy me.'

Then he spotted Mother and Granny Genie. Mother Genie waved her hand and the magic carpet disappeared.

'Now dear,' he began cautiously, 'I was only having a little fun.'

"Yes, dear, of course you were," she said in a very reasonable voice, which raised hopes in the breast of father Genie that he might perhaps escape with a small wigging. He was doomed to disappointment.

Granny genie clicked her fingers and they all turned to smoke and disappeared into the lamp, including Biggles and Algy.

It took Biggles and Algy a few seconds to realise where they were and they looked around with great interest.m

Obviously they’d never been inside a lamp before. It was very roomy. “Just like a TARDIS,” commented Algy as they took in their surroundings.

"What is the TARDIS?" One of Jeannie's brothers asked interestedly.

"It stands for Time and Relative Dimensions in Space," explained Algy, "and it's a time machine."

"Oh, that," the young Genie waved a dismissive hand. "Our lamp is one of those. They're quite common an come in various shapes."

"No, that's far too much like hard work," Father Genie broke in. "Now I can remember.." He carried on in a reminiscing mood, but it was obvious he was hoping to deflect everybody's attention from his current plight.

His ploy didn't work. Both Mother and Grandmother Genie began berating him in truly magnificent style. Biggles and Algy were quite impressed with their far-ranging vocabulary.

They finally wound down. Mother Genie turned to the two airmen and issued an apology. "We do not belong here," she said,"at least until we have studied your world more closely. So we will go back. In the meantime, I understand that you have three wishes?" She smiled at Biggles. "No strings or burdens attached."

Biggles smiled back. "I still haven't decided what to wish for."

"I'll give you one of your hours," she smiled,"and you can pass them on to your friends if you want to." She waved her hand and Algy and Biggles found themselves outside the lamp.

"One hour!" exclaimed Algy, looking at Biggles speculatively. "You'd better get cracking and make up your mind."

'No ill effects from cigarettes,' Biggles suggested. 'Some spare change for us all to play with - Dizzy's broke, remember. What else could we wish for?'

Biggles vetoed that.
"For goodness sake stop that Yankee drawl, or you'll have us all doing it before you've finished."
"OK baby - sorry - I mean, righto."
"That's better."
