'Sophie lost her partner to this high level mole. She's been trying to infiltrate ever since. She's been passing on information during our movie nights.'
'Major Bigglesworth,' said von Stalhein coldly, 'there are times when I seriously wonder if you were created by the devil just to annoy me.'

"You sly old fox," said Algy as he nodded slowly. A small grin was spreading across his face. "So that party at the flat was just one big cover operation?"

"Yes, of course," Biggles said, surprised. "Have you ever known me to do that sort of thing before?"

'You've been doing a lot of things we've never seen you do before, old top," replied Bertie drily.

"Yes, I had to act out of character. It wasn't easy. And by the way, why on earth did you use itching powder? I didn't know whether to,laugh or cry."

Bertie had the grace to look embarrassed as he and Algy exchanged glances. Algy grinned. "It seemed like a good idea at the time. How was I to know the wind would get up the very moment I threw the powder and that dear old Mrs Symes would open the door at the same time!" He slapped Biggles on the shoulder. "You have to admit it was effective!"

Biggles laughed. "That it was."
"For goodness sake stop that Yankee drawl, or you'll have us all doing it before you've finished."
"OK baby - sorry - I mean, righto."
"That's better."

'And you get to send apologies and chocolates or flowers or whatever you send to women you've covered with itching powder at a party,' Biggles added. 'I'd like them to remember me without spitting when my name's mentioned.'

'Let's take some leave,' Biggles suggested, 'and go away to somewhere I don't know anybody and not come back until everyone has forgotten all about this. Timbuktu is about the right distance.'

“How about somewhere where the jolly old bananas and coconuts grow?” Bertie suggested.

“Don’t you think we should sort this little mess out first?” Algy replied, waving his hand in the general direction of the room where Sophie was.

'No,' Biggles decided. 'It's Major Charles' mess. I've done what I was ordered to which was to get a meeting between them arranged. My part is over.'

“In that case,” said Algy, “Let’s shove off. What’s the time? Should I be looking at eating a Full English or a steak?”

'It's 5am so have what you fancy,' grinned Biggles. 'It's dinnertime somewhere! I think the all night caff used by the taxi drivers will be able to meet our needs. C'mon.'

Hurray! It amazes me, sometimes, how quickly these things end.
