James C Bigglesworth (born 1899) is known to his friends as Biggles and is the lead character in Biggles books. Born in India and attended public boarding school in England.

He learnt to fly in the first world war mainly in Camel aircraft rising to a Flight Commander in 266 squadron. During the wars he took part in adventure flying.

In the second world war he was Commanding Officer of 666 Squadron.

After the war he formed the 'air police' with Air Commodore Raymond

Biggles is always just, upright and fair.
