"Take Uncle Algy with you and go and get it now!" Thundered Lord Lacey.

"Why don't you tell me how this all fits in with your little box, while we wait for Algy to come back," Biggles suggested, looking around for somewhere for Dickpa to sit.

Lord Lacey fixed the twins with a grade 1 irate stare. Sighing, they turned to go and collect the map, Algy in close attendance.
'Major Bigglesworth,' said von Stalhein coldly, 'there are times when I seriously wonder if you were created by the devil just to annoy me.'

"I'm still thinking it through, m'boy," sighed Dickpa as he sank thankfully on to the small rock Biggles had moved for him. Biggles was also trying to keep an eye on the vision of loveliness. He didn't trust her, Raymond's niece of not. And Raymond still hadn't explained his interest in this. Biggles felt in his bones there was a lot more to this than they had been told.

He remembered reading an article about an American archaeologist who had supposedly found the Lost Ark. Something about the Nazis in Germany wanting it.

He wondered if there would be any traces of Nazis at Smugglers' Cove. If they were interested in the Ark of the Covenant then they'd be interested in Excalibur.

The more Biggles pondered on this, the more he thought there could be a likely connection. He had read that Herr Hitler was apparently quite superstitious. If they had been involved in seeking the Lost Ark, they could very well be following any lead to the legend of Arthur and his Knights. Biggles came out of his reverie and looked around. The vision was nowhere to be seen.

"Where has your niece gone, sir?" Biggles asked the Air Commodore. "We were supposed to all stay together."

Raymond looked about as if he hadn't noticed that she was missing. 'I really don't know. Perhaps she saw something she wanted to take a closer look at.'

In the distance there was what sounded like a struggle and then a scream, which ended abruptly.

The three men looked at each other. "Where did that come from?" Biggles asked urgently.

'Impossible to tell,' snapped Dickpa. 'We'll check the Glastonbury branch and Raymond can go with Lacey to the Crypt.

"You need to stay here," Biggles said. "Algy will be expecting someone to be here and we can't let him wander around if he's got the twins with him. The Air Commodore and Lord Lacey can take the Crypt and I'll go to Smugglers Cove. When Algy returns go to the library and wait for us there. Is that clear?"

'Shouldn't we stay together?' Raymond asked. 'Will we be at risk of being picked off one by one if separate? There's safety in numbers.'

Biggles bit back the stinging retort he wanted give in response to this.

"In my experience, offensive action usually pays more dividends than defensive," he said tersely. "And staying here won't find out if your niece is okay. Let's get cracking!"

Reluctantly, Raymond set off behind Lord Lacey towards the Crypt. Biggles, after a quick reassuring word with Dickpa, made his way towards Smugglers Cove.

Smugglers' Cove was beautiful. Biggles thought he could spend a lot of time there. Reluctantly returning, he was at first surprised and then alarmed at the absence of the others.

He went straight to the library where he found an irate Algy. The twins were nowhere to be seen.

Dickpa came back into the Library "No, they aren't upstairs in their rooms, nor the nursery" he responded to Algy's questions.

“I am willing to bet a considerable amount that somehow or other they’ve gone to the Crypt,” Biggles grated. “Cleopatra definitely didn’t want us going there.”

At that precise moment Lettice stalked into the room. "Where are my children?" She demanded."And father? Has he taken them somewhere dangerous? Honestly, Algernon, I leave them in your charge for two minutes and what happens? They disappear. "

As Algy opened his mouth to give vent to an indignant reply, the twins burst into the room.

“Uncle Algy! Help! That lady’s been kidnaped!”

"What lady?" demanded Lettice as Algy, Biggles and Dickpa jumped up. "Where? Show us!" demanded Biggles to Cleopatra as he rushed past her.

They’re taking her to the Crypt!” Cried Cleopatra, ignoring her mother and grabbing Biggles’ hand, began urgently tugging him along with her.
