"Tough," Biggles replied uncompromisingly. "We were all looking for it, so I don't see any reason why they shouldn't know. It's not your show, nor your library, for that matter, so you don't get to decide who does what. Here you are, Dickpa," Biggles added, handing the book to his Uncle.

After a few minutes, his attitude changed from one of studious to great excitement. He rushed over to the table on which the box lay and suddenly started removing the contents.

'Not here,' he muttered, and ran to the bedroom the classical remains were in.
'Major Bigglesworth,' said von Stalhein coldly, 'there are times when I seriously wonder if you were created by the devil just to annoy me.'

Dickpa, book in hand, headed straight to an Egyptian sarcophagus.

He pulled out the quilt and pillows put in it by the children and began examining the hieroglphs inside.

After a quick examination, he got out his pen and diary, in lieu of other paper, and began making notes in the back.

Finally Dickpa stopped scribbling, stared thoughtfully at his notes, then back at the open book he had placed on the edge of the sarcophagus, spun around and said, "Somewhere in this house there is a secret room where King Arthur's Excalibur was placed after it was stolen from the lake where he cast it before he and his knights retired to Merlin's Cave to enter their long sleep. Excalibur is the key to our national future."

Algy and Biggles stared at him, open mouthed.
"For goodness sake stop that Yankee drawl, or you'll have us all doing it before you've finished."
"OK baby - sorry - I mean, righto."
"That's better."

Isn't the sarcophagus older than Excalibur?' Biggles asked. 'Also, if there is a secret room, don't you think the children will have found it? Did you know anything about this, Algy?'
'Major Bigglesworth,' said von Stalhein coldly, 'there are times when I seriously wonder if you were created by the devil just to annoy me.'

Algy looked at his father who gave a very slight nod.

"Er - yes. There are a couple of secret rooms - but they're not really all that secret. Lettice and I used to play in them and I'm sure the children know all about them. I'm jolly certain there's no Excalibur hidden in either of them," he paused long enough for Biggles to raise and eyebrow as he looked from his cousin to his uncle and back again.

"But..." he encouraged.

'The butler converts Tesco's finest into tonic wine in one of 'em,' Algy explained 'and his secret experiments into making a philosopher's stone take place in the other.'

"Hardly secret of everyone knows about them," Biggles remarked."Well, lead on. We may as well go and look."

They trooped down to the wine cellar. Lord Lacey pulled out a wine bottle with his left hand whilst pressing another with his right. Nothing happened.

'Other way round, father,' Algy suggested. Lord Lacey reversed his actions and a section of racking swung open to reveal a secret room.

They all trooped in. And stopped. The twins were there, sat on a cask, a lantern beside them. In Cleopatra's hand was an open bottle of tonic wine.

In the other she held a tiny funnel. Carefully she placed the funnel in the neck of the wine bottle. Equally carefully, Caratacus poured a small scoop of botanicals into the bottle before sticking a tonic wine label over the existing one.

The party of adults stood mesmerised for a few seconds. It was Lord Lacey who broke the spell as he let out a roar. "Startled, Cleopatra dropped the bottle and it smashed onto the stone floor.

'That's the good port!' he roared. 'You don't make tonic wine with that. There are only half a dozen bottles of that port left in the world.'

"Five now, Grandpa," Cleopatra corrected him. Algy turned a guffaw into a cough.

'Grandma drank it last night,' she added serenely. 'We are making our own cordial. We have been told what it is safe to use.'

Biggles wondered if they were following that advice.

He also wondered if Lord Lacey was about to have a fit.

"Who told you what was safe to use?" Lord Lacey barked. "If it's one of the staff, they're out of here without a reference."

It was the wrong thing to say. The twins were very, very loyal.

'Do you know of any other secret rooms?' Biggles asked them. 'We want to find the one with a sword in it.'
