Re: Vickers Vandal - from fiction to facsimile...

Thanks, FB, for shifting this over. I have some other model threads that would be nice to see here before the old site closes. Can you help with that, or give me some clues how I can do it myself? The titles are: "Imaginary aircraft of WEJ", "New Year, New Model", "And Another Mystery", and "Parking...

Re: Restoring an Avro Hanson

Hi FB, this is a great project. I spent 10 years helping to restore an Anson, which now flies in New Zealand. Will follow your restoration with interest. For a bit of background, the Avro 652 started as a civilian aircraft, then a light bomber, then a reconnaissance aircraft, and finally - and overw...

Re: Biggles Handbook - Crime and the Aeroplane

Given that the Air Police Service all live at the same flat, and share the same work experience, maybe a handbook for them to read was a low priority on Biggles' Round Tuit list. The Air Commodore may have had visions of a much larger organisation - and the early books suggested it would be - requir...

Re: Perimeter Fencing

Security wasn't a big issue back then. I'd say ordinary farm fencing or hedges, and nice white picket fences adjacent to the clubhouse or terminal.

Re: A Biggles movie revival?

The one that we discussed on the old forum, that was a prospective TV series, rather than a feature film. It's this one: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6975788/?ref_=nv_sr_5 It was/is being written by this company: http://www.ravenousfilmworks.com/ I have a cousin who's got professional access and he...

Re: A Biggles movie revival?

Whatever happened to the Biggles movie that was being touted last year?? The people asked what we thought and then went off on another track. I lost interest when they said he would be some sort of grog artist making a great wartime comeback. Shame they don't read the books and write a script for th...

Re: A Renkell in Time

Finally done. Not perfect, if I look at the text, the fuselage could be thinner and the engines longer. But overall a fair picture of the experimental bomber/transport of the story. I cut down the rudder a bit and it looks a little more realistic; but hey, it's an imaginary aeroplane... Some picture...

Re: A Renkell in Time

OK here is the tail fin and rudder "so far"...not ideal, but I'm almost at a point of saying yes to it and sticking it into place. Once glued on, I'll paint it the Italian yellow, and nearly done at that point. DSCF7064.JPG Meantime I've had a setback with one engine, which magically changed its pos...

Re: Biggles Goes to War – Aircraft

The picture shows a nicely drawn Nieuport Delage parasol monoplane. Parasols were trendy in the early 30's and as the Spanish Civil War showed, it was possible to buy aircraft from anywhere, by devious means, if you needed them. Lovitzna could have had German, Russian, Polish or French aircraft - th...

Re: Biggles Goes to War – Aircraft

Greetings Xenol and welcome! Your illustrations are gorgeous, I hope you are keen on modelling as we have a model group that periodically tries to put WEJ's imaginings into 3d. Check the model section for the latest group build. As regards the GTW Fokker, here's a picture (from the original book) of...

A couple of things I've noticed...the rank insignia isn't matching the stated rank (not sure if that's everyone or just me), and we are missing the really useful tool of "view active topics" that we used to have. Otherwise slowly settling into the new setup. Thanks to all the hard workers shifting s...

Re: A Renkell in Time

Well, the news is that I have finally got under way. So far a bit of sanding to remove rivets and a reconstruction of the tailplane. My starter kit is of a twin fin aircraft, so I have modified the original tailplane from this DSCF7045.JPG to this DSCF7048.JPG so as to make a reasonable single fin a...
