Re: Meanwhile, in Australia.....

We live in big tick country too - sheep and deer. Despite this, it's really hard to get the average doctor to test for Lymes.

Re: Currently Reading, Not Biggles

I wonder if it was the same stuff my brother used to use on his balsa wood and paper model aircraft back in the '50s? If so, would explain a lot about my brother.....

So cute it must be deadly!
I was thinking the exact same thing.

I read a report of the "bluebottles" and it said they were jellyfish.

I have heated seats in my car. It's great in the winter.
I had those several cars ago. My dog used to switch them on by standing on the switches that were on the centre console. So I'd suddenly get a hot bot, and wonder why.

First one is SO good. Couldn't see the second for some reason.

I like your ideas, but no whipping Mr. KK's trousers down to show guests what you have made for him.

Yes, same here. Walking the dogs has become quite balletic, but not in a good way. Still good to be out, though.

Yes: good genes trump everything else, I'm sure. As my health practitioner says, we live as long as our parents lived, and we die of the things they died of. Unless war or the proverbial no. 7 bus gets in the way of course.

Re: How on earth does Biggles keep fit?

I think it's exercise that does the damage! Having taken part in high-risk sports for most of my life, I am arthritic, battered, asymmetrical and have to be respectful of my various old injuries or else they bite me. My sister, who has never done anything since her 20s, is 79 and in much better cond...

I wonder if the interest level was increased for The Boy Biggles, since WEJ wrote it in response to letters from children asking about Biggles' childhood?
That sounds highly likely :thumbchap:

Re: The worst of EVS

I think the story arc around EvS is redemption. He starts off in Flies East as a brilliant agent who commands the respect of Biggles, then slowly drifts downwards as he cannot move on from losing the war and his hatred leads him into making poorer and poorer decisions- a good man gone bad to paraph...

Re: How on earth does Biggles keep fit?

if you see the size of glasses from those days, they were smaller. So although people seemed to have a glass in their hands a lot more often, they weren't actually drinking a lot in volume. And drunkenness was very much frowned upon. Quite a few other literary heroes should not be as fit as they are...

Re: Who Reads the Papers?

Newspapers were an absolute religion when I was growing up. Nobody would speak to the 'man of the house' until he'd read the papers. And of course they would have to have a different newspaper each, so they could swap and compare later on.
