Re: Meanwhile, in Australia.....

:imao: :woohodance: Nice to know that my memory was correct! I checked the book, but stopped when I found a reference to removing the irritants without the use of a pin and didn't continue further as I thought I remembered that there was only one such reference. Thanks for finding it, FB. https://ww...

Re: Availability of Biggles stories

I think someone would have heard and posted here if there were any plans to reprint other than the Red Fox editions. I think with the big, free libraries, then it's a volunteer who has an interest who scans them in, and they are not necessarily part of the forum or any of the other groups.

Re: I found a thing...

Awesome! It's an Australian beast so we mainly have discussed it in the Only in Australia topic on the old forum. Nice to see a picture of it.

Re: Swimwear

So, it was more important for girls to cover their bodies than to swim in the most hygienic way..... Double standards at their best.

I did much the same, Fairblue. I also tried to distinguish between words I was familiar with and words I actually used on some of the multiple choice questions. Some of the words I hear all the time but don't actually use myself when I think about it.

Re: The Weather

I've just looked up relative humidity to see why it bothers people in hot countries as humidity in my temperate coastal location is usually in the mid to high 90s (95% today) and it doesn't bother anyone (although we complain when it gets to 100% and rains hard). Obviously the experience must be ver...

Re: Swimwear

The idea that swimsuits carry gerrms is why the French insist on their little Speedos in a pool rather than allowing swim shorts which could be worn elsewhere and pick up dirt and infection which would transfer into the water. I know that there were places on various British rivers which were nude b...

Re: The Chat Thread

I thought it would be fun to take despite knowing my English is a real mis-mash that changes wherever I am and who I'm talking with. I broke the quiz! My answers are all over the place and it just said "you don't fit here at all"! Maybe I don't speak English at all? I tried it too - it said the sam...

You are doing well. I find that picture of a snowy cactus deeply disturbing. It is wrong on several levels. I must start thinking outside the box to get more of mine ticked off.

Ooops. Oh well. I suppose repairing it gives him something to do. It's raining here. No surprise there. Amber flood warning which is nothing to worry about. I had to take some friends to a train station three stops up the line for their train earlier today as there has been a small landslip onto the...

Re: Have Your Cake and Eat It

Biggles examined as much of its dark interior as he could through cracks and knotholes. Satisfied that it was empty, he pulled a couple of loose boards away from its rear as quietly as he could then wriggled in. An unexpected smell entered his nostrils.

Re: Have Your Cake and Eat It

Biggles checked his watch. 'I'm going to wait until they are all likely to be sat down for a meal then sneak up to a window to take a head count,' he decided.

Re: Have Your Cake and Eat It

Biggles grinned. 'I'm not going to check. I'm going to presume that everyone inside is a foreign national and male. Maybe we can get the officer in charge of the WAAFs to check when they're all rounded up. I don't think I've got an accurate picture of how many people are in that house, yet. I need t...

Re: Have Your Cake and Eat It

'I've heard the farmers complain about being short-handed,' Biggles argued. 'And look at how many land girls Tex has fallen for. I think Von Stalhein is in that farmhouse, with his companions from the pub, in their trousers as usual, and that he's got more men in there, disguised as women. I wonder ...

Re: Have Your Cake and Eat It

That was a very sensible answer, but it didn't feel right to Biggles. He looked at the washing on the line, thought of the strong, tall, sturdy women he had seen, looked at the woman still polishing the same window, and sighed. 'Algy, if there is a farm full of men when every able-bodied man in the ...

Re: Have Your Cake and Eat It

'Can't see what,' Algy shrugged, his eyes roving over the bucolic scene in front of him. Biggles checked round once more. There was no sign of the milkmaid who had entered the kitchen door. The window was still being polished by the woman on the top floor. She'd have a good view of the surrounding c...

Re: Have Your Cake and Eat It

A milkmaid came out of a shed, carrying a bucket into the kitchen. Another woman came out carrying a basket. She walked around the side to a lawn criss crossed with clothes lines. She began to hang out the washing. A movement at a window drew Biggles's attention to a third woman cleaning the glass. ...

Re: Have Your Cake and Eat It

'They have to be captured! Spies can't be allowed to wander around. They've attacked the base.' Taffy was incredulous at the suggestion that any action other than attack could cross the man's mind. 'Get some tools from the sheds, and some rope. There are more of us than them. Get them rounded up and...
