Re: Fanfics and writing?

I have six or seven chapters done of a John's style fanfic. ( I posted a few of them on the old site, several years back). I then walked away from it for a long time and have now returned to it. I started with two things - an event and an overarching idea that would explain why the event fitted in. ...

Re: Currently Reading, Not Biggles

For non Biggles , I pretty much always have Sherlock Holmes or James Herriot on the go. I have omnibuses of both and will randomly read a short story when the mood takes me.

Re: Three Johns one-offs

The Three Investigators was a great series! Especially the first 20 or so. I still have some , somewhere. I should get my son to start reading them.

Re: Three Johns one-offs

I have Rustlers. It's not bad, a bit contrived and the Captain has clearly delved into Western stereotypical dialogue, lol.

I nearly bought a copy of Eagles before Christmas but couldn't justify the price.

Which reminds me, I think have a couple of Johns' space books that I've never read.

Re: Meanwhile, in Australia.....

She kept her cool! I know I'd have been freaking!! Here's another intriguing one. Who'd have thought a Daddy Long Legs could defeat a Brown snake??? https://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-02-11/daddy-long-legs-spider-wins-battle-brown-snake/7154766 Not me. I'm sceptical on this one. Imo, even a 1mt brown...

Re: I found a thing...

Hmm. Tempted by Gun Runners. I usually object to the idea of finishing my hardcover collection via Ebay but the ones i'm missing are seriously hard to find casually these days.

Thanks for the links.

Re: Gimlet gets the answer

Well, what a strange book! For starters, my copy has quite a few print errors. Miss-spelt words, or incorrect words, poor punctuation, clumsy editing. The Captain seems a bit off his usual game, especially for a 1952 book , with regards to phrasing and his techniques for relating conversation. There...

Thanks all.

This weekend is chaotic with a daughters basketball tournament. But I hope to settle on the couch tonight and get some reading done.

Gimlet gets the answer

After many years of never coming across a copy, I just picked up this one.

Ive read the first couple of pages - a brief historical outline and then an opening meeting with Major Charles. Nice!

It's so nice to have a WE John's book that I haven't read multiple times before.
