Re: Biggles Puzzle

What a great present! I recently received a dent to my puzzling confidence thanks to a tricky number that had what looked like edge pieces on the inside of the puzzle. Quite a fun wee challenge that. I will have both American and British postal addresses from April so would be keen to jump on board ...

Mr FB is 70 next year and although he can't sprint like Biggles he is far from doddery. His only concession to age has been to have a lighter (but not necessarily slower) motorbike because all his old rugby injuries are catching up with him. 8-)
I tip my hat at him!

Re: Unlikely Lines to Read in a Biggles Book

"All I'm saying" Algy replied mildly, "is the boy has a point. All those strong spirits just don't taste as good neat" and he sipped at his bright orange confection with the air of a man who has toiled mightily, and is now enjoying the reward. In the corner Ginger twirled a cocktail umbrella between...

Re: How on earth does Biggles keep fit?

And he's just fortunate that his eternal youth as a fictional hero kept him from aging to the point when he'd have gotten chronic obstructive lung disease from all that smoking... At some stage we have to accept that 70-year-old Biggles is not the same 70 as poor doddery old Mrs Smith from down the...

Re: The Weather

I love Chester Zoo. Did you get caught up in the fire? That was Saturday, wasn't it? I used to live in Chester and the zoo was one of the places we always took visitors. Indeed we did! Just about to go in to the building when the bally thing went and caught fire. Did a spot of crowd control then wa...

Re: The Weather

Snow here (in Amsterdam) today. Quite a change to Saturday when we were nearly toasted out of Chester Zoo.

Re: The Weather

That sounds most dramatic, id. Quite Shakespearean. Hope the move goes well despite the omens. Me, too, id. Thanks all! Move went well. So well I am now 'enjoying' darting around some more wintery climes. Shame my time is at the whim of my boss or I would be able to suggest meeting some of you wond...

Re: The Weather

Need to send you our big storm, RSG. Thunder and (forked!) lightening right overhead here, bringing power cuts, closed roads, floods...all the usual fun. Personally this is annoying because today is moving day so everything is getting utterly soaked as it gets hauled to the truck, but at least we ar...

Re: They shall not grow old

I haven't had the chance to watch it in full yet, though I am hoping to see it soon. I found it odd that they changed the title slightly, as an aside (these things come to one on Remembrance day!) The lack of camouflage uniforms was quite interesting, and a very interesting development actually. Fro...

Re: Fanfics and writing?

I read a finished bit aloud, over and over to check it sounds right, and words are not squished into place and I like the challenge of matching poem form and pattern to words, a bit like words to music...it can significantly affect tone and pace. And it does not always work, and I aim not to take t...
